TIFTON —
A comedy guaranteed to put a smile on every face lights up the Howard Auditorium stage when the Baldwin Players present “The Hallelujah Girls” Oct. 25-27 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
Curtain time is 7 p.m. each night for the play, which is free of charge to ABAC faculty, staff and students. There is a $5 admission fee for the general public.
Baldwin Players Director Dr. Brian Ray said the play deals with adult themes and situations and contains some strong language.
Written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, “The Hallelujah Girls” is a comedy about five southern women who decide to turn an old church into a day spa. There are tons of problems along the path to achieving their dream, but it’s nothing that a surprise ending can’t fix.
Characters include Sugar Lee, the high-spirited leader, played by Taylor Williams from Blakely; Carlene, a woman who has given up on romance after burying three husbands, played by Leah Croft from Tifton; Nita, a nervous wreck from running interference between her problematic son and his probation officer, played by Ashlyne Eubanks from Nashville; and Mavis, a woman in a stagnant marriage, played by Kaylee Stokes from Tifton.
Also featured are Bunny, an upbeat and seemingly pleasant woman who is deliciously judgmental and passive aggressive, played by Joscelyn Marshall from LaGrange; Crystal, a sweet and simple woman who entertains everyone by singing Christmas carols with her own hilarious lyrics, played by Alena Phillips from Richmond Hill; Bobby Dwayne, a man unaware of his rugged good looks with a deprecating sense of humor, played by Tre’mon Mills from Blakely; and Porter, a good-hearted, gregarious boaster who doesn’t know when to shut up, played by James Ramsey from Cordele.
Noelle Stuart from Coolidge serves as assistant director of the production.
