TIFTON —
An Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College student died Tuesday morning in a residence hall at ABAC.
Ashley Mock, director of public relations at ABAC, told The Gazette Tuesday morning that it appeared student April Paulk, 21, of Doerun, who was a sophomore majoring in diversified agriculture, died by natural causes.
However, Tift County Coroner Steve Wood didn’t speculate on the cause of death when The Gazette spoke with him Tuesday afternoon. Although, he assured, “We do not suspect any foul play.”
He said Paulk’s body will be sent to the GBI Crime Lab today for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Wood stated that Paulk was found unresponsive by her roommate about 7:30 or 8 a.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner John Waddell. Mock stated that ABAC Police and paramedics responded to the scene.
Grief counseling was offered by Dr. Maggie Martin Tuesday afternoon at the John Hunt Town Center on campus. Faculty, staff and students were notified of the student’s death.

Proud of diamond accomplishments of Devils, Panthers
Tift County almost pulled off an incredible feat this year, having two teams in the baseball quarterfinals.. It was a great year for baseball at all area schools, all eight of them in the postseason. Both Kyle Kirk's Tift County Blue Devils and Brad Porter's Tiftarea Academy Panthers came within an eyelash of doing even better: the final four.
