‘Old Friends’ welcome in Concert season

TIFTON — The fall series of Concert in the Park kicked off at noon Friday at the Veterans Memorial Park with a southern gospel and classic country performance by the band, “Old Friends.” Also, Friday was POW/MIA Day. Before the concert began, Senior Vice Commander Tyrone “Ty” Taylor of the American Legion Post 21 read 30 names of POW/MIAs from the state of Georgia, who fought in the Vietnam War, and the United State’s only confirmed POW in Iraq, Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, assigned to the Idaho National Guard. Afterwards, the crowd silently stood facing the POW/MIA flag as a recording of Taps played. The free concerts are sponsored by The Tifton Gazette and Main Street Tifton.
