TIFTON —
Leon Doyle Newbern, 60, of Tifton died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oakey Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Raymond Cason , the Rev. Shawn Suggs and the Rev. Curtis Watson will officiate. A eulogy will be given by Vicky Shaw. The family will receive friends from 9 until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bowen Donaldson Home for Funerals. Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.
Mr. Newbern was born April 15, 1952 in Tifton and was the son of Virgil Newbern and Virginia Exum . He was a Master Brick and Block Mason for 40 years. He loved music and his family. Mr. Newbern was preceded in death by one sister, Penny Newbern.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Newbern is survived by a son, Calem Newbern of Tifton; daughter, Amanda Newbern of Tifton; brothers, Denzil Newbern, Ray Newbern and Benny DeWayne Newbern, all of Tifton; sisters, Diane Sumner of Tifton, Darlene Jordan of Tifton and Teresa Lewis of Hahira; one grandson, Elijah Newbern; and several nieces and nephews.

Tattnall Square tops Tiftarea, 6-2
Ernie Banks used to say, "let's play two." In a game that was as long as two and was defined early on by errors and later by a pitching duel, it would be offense that propelled the Tattnall Square Trojans past the Tiftarea Academy Panthers, 6-2 in 14 innings. Tattnall, who won the first game of the series, 4-1 before dropping game two, 6-3, will meet Mount de Sales in the Class AAA semifinals next week.
