Elder Maurice Riner

STATESBORO — Elder Maurice Riner, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 at his daughter's residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Collins. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Honorary pallbearers will be all Primitive Baptist Elders and their spouses. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.

Mr. Riner was born in Wrightsville and was a combat veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He was ordained as a Primitive Baptist Minister over 60 years ago. Elder Riner pastored many churches in the area of Garden City, Savannah, Tifton and Fitzgerald. He was a member of Sturgeon Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Fitzgerald. He was preceded in death by his daughters, JoAnn Riner Ryals and Pamela Jane Riner.

Survivors include his wife, Trudy Riner of Statesboro; his children, Donald Clyde Riner of Ocilla, Earl Bruce Riner of Tifton, Beverly (H. Ray) Long of Statesboro and James Randall (Renee) Riner of Monroe; four grandchildren, Marcy Sanders, Jessica Sandow, Emily Sandow and Bryan Riner and five great-grandchildren.

Hodges-Moore Funeral Home of Statesboro is in charge of arrangements.
