MACON — Cleon Emerson Moore, 84, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2013. Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. Burial will be private for family only at Riverside Cemetery, North Gate. The family will greet friends from 2 p.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

Mr. Moore was born in Tift County, the son of the late James Homer Moore and Emolease Wilson Moore and was preceded in death by a brother, James Homer Moore Jr. He was a graduate of ABAC, the University of Georgia and Louisiana State University, School of Banking. Mr. Moore worked with Turner City Board of Education, Farmers Home Administration and served in the military in Augusta.

Mr. Moore joined the Social Circle Bank as a cashier and left as President in 1963. He became President of the Citizens Bank of Fort Valley and future chairman of the board until 1999. Cleon was an active member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Fort Valley and a Sunday School teacher.

Being a very active minded person, Cleon served on boards of Fort Valley State College, Middle Georgia Technical College, Macon Junior (Macon State), Medcen, First Baptist of Fort Valley, Georgia Bankers Association and Independent Bankers of Georgia, president of the Kiwanis and Chamber of Commerce, and also served on the military affairs committee of Warner Robins Air Force Base.

In 1976 he married Betty Smith White of Macon. They became members of Fort Valley United Methodist Church. Cleon taught Sunday School, became chairman of the financial committee and served on the Board of Stewards. Mr. Moore retired in 1994, but remained chairman of the board of the Citizens Bank (CB & T) until 1999.

Betty and Cleon moved to Amelia Island, Fla. in 2000, keeping their Fort Valley home. In Dec. of 2007, they moved to Carlyle Place in Macon.

Cleon was a devoted and loving husband, dad and grandfather, “Big Daddy.” He enjoyed flying, travelling, reading, gardening and being with family and friends. Cleon is survived by his wife of 36 years, Betty Smith Moore of Macon; daughters, Pamela Frame of Milledgeville, Cynthia Askew of LaGrange; grandchildren, Erin Askew Hill (Kevin), Cameron Askew (Ashley), Templin Frame, and Jennifer Love; step-son, Chan White, III (Anna Rinehart) of Tucker; grandchildren, Mary Elisabeth, Sarah, and Chandler, IV White.
