AMBROSE —
Alpheus “Alvie” Underwood, 47, of Ambrose, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, in McIntosh County following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. at New Vision House Of Worship with the Rev. Jimmy Jordan officiating. Interment followed at New Hope Church Cemetery. Music was furnished by CD “Keeper Of The Stars” and Praise and Worship Team; Amber Jordan, and Amy Adams “Amazing Grace” and ”My Chains Are Gone”; “It’s Not Goodbye”, and “It Will Be Worth It All” with Rodney Windham playing the piano.
Active Pallbearers were, Kenny Allen, Joey Underwood, Danny Underwood, Dino Mathis, Michael Underwood and Rodney Windham.
Mr. Underwood was born on Dec. 7, 1965, in Tifton to Edison Ray Underwood and Patricia Lucille Vickers. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Rodriguez.
Survivors included his wife, Gloria Underwood of Ambrose; five daughters, Amber Underwood of Chiefland, Fla., Tiffany Nicole Underwood of Orville, Ohio, Tiffany Renee Hudson of Chiefland, Fla., Marie (Jason) Spivey of Jacksonville and Katherine (Eddie) Mathis of McRae; three sons, Michael Underwood of Orville, Ohio, Rich Miles of Ambrose and Kelvin (Cassi) Hart of McRae; three sisters, Aleida Morales, Nancy Walker, both of Tifton and Phyllis Price of Sycamore; three brothers, Danny Underwood of St. Marys, Joey Underwood of Omega and Kenny Allen of Tifton, father, Edison Ray Underwood of Ambrose; mother, Patricia Lucille Vickers of Tifton; and nine grandchildren, Jessica Spivey, Hunter Spivey, Kelsi Barrs, Grace Hart Mathis, Summer Hart, Colton Hart, Paul Kendall, Jaylen Underwood and Alex Kendall. Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

“Keep calm and stop the violence,” “Save our streets” and “No more violence” were the words echoed by Eighth Street Middle School students early Tuesday morning as they stood in front of the school behind caution tape and orange cones, shouting and holding up signs as they waved at passing motorists who smiled and returned the gesture.

The Tift County Blue Devils, who were only just barely eliminated in the state quarterfinals, placed two players on the All-Region team for 1-AAAAAA. The region, which sent three teams to the elite eight in the state tournament, named Lowndes’ Danny Redshaw Coach of the Year.
