Attempted shovel attack among incidents reported

TIFTON — Local law enforcement agencies responded to several incidents over the weekend, including an aggravated assault, a criminal attempt to commit robbery and other incidents.

According to an incident report filed at the Tifton Police Department, a man was arrested Saturday after a woman called 911 to report a domestic fight at a residence on Moore Highway. Lt. Steven Laska reported that while traveling north on Moore Highway, two males and a female ran out into the roadway. He reported that one of the men, who had some lacerations to his face, stated that another man hit him and his sister and was trying to come after them with a shovel.

Laska reported that he then noticed a white male enter the roadway with a bloody face and a shovel in his right hand. Upon seeing the police car, the suspect ran back into the yard, he reported. Laska stated that he ran after the man.

After coming into contact with the suspect, Laska realized that the man’s face was very bloody due to a wound to the top of his head, face and mouth. An ambulance was contacted to check on the man’s injuries.

A woman was later located inside the residence. The report states that she had several noticeable injuries to her lower legs and face with blood around her nose and mouth. A witness, who reported that she was struck by the suspect and went to get help for the injured woman, explained to police what happened.

London Chad Hogan, 32, 1817 Moore Highway, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, simple battery, aggravated assault and criminal damage to property in the first degree.

In another matter, a man who lives in the 1000 block of Ferry Lake Road reported Sunday that a white female came to his home and told him that she wanted to show him something out back. He told police that he and the woman went to the back and three young Hispanic males were waiting on them. He reported that one of the males, unknown description, pushed on him while the woman tried to get his wallet.

The man told police that the offenders were unable to take anything from him and fled the scene heading west. The report states that he was unable to give a description of the offenders. A witness told police that during the attempted robbery, he ran outside and yelled “hey” at the offenders, causing them to run off.

In other unrelated cases:

• Five people were arrested Saturday after they were caught trespassing on the property of Citizen’s Hardware on South Main Street. James Williams III, 30, 1745 Ferry Lake Road; Andre Bryant, 49, 1001 Doc Melton Drive, Lot 4; Carl Brown Jr., 48, 600 E. Golden Road; Sharon Clark, 44, 3115 Hill Ave., Lot 9; and Gary Robinson, 57, 4112 Martin Ave., were all charged with criminal trespass.

• A man reported Friday that a black male known to him hit him in the head and held him at an unknown location against his will.

• Two women reported Monday that someone entered their locked residence in the 3400 block of West Highway 82 and took a television and Wii game system. The report states that the window unit appeared to have been removed and then placed back into the window.

• A man reported Sunday that someone entered his storage unit located in the 3600 block of Highway 82 and stole numerous items.

• A man who lives in the 200 block of Hall Road reported Sunday that two of his vehicles were entered. He reported that six firearms and two bottles of prescription medication were taken, along with a bank deposit bag and a book of deposit slips.

• A woman who lives in the 1200 block of Tifton-Eldorado Road reported Saturday that someone entered her residence and took property valued at $1,000.
