TIFTON —
The Turner County Rebels traveled to McRae and faced the Telfair County Trojans on their homecoming night. Turner was hoping to rebound from a loss the previous week to Wilcox County, but came up short, 43-24.
The Rebels received the kickoff and Luke Soliday ran up the middle for a 70-yard touchdown. He then ran the 2-point conversion to give his team an early 8-0 lead. Each team then punted after a 3-and-out series.
Telfair then drove 50 yards for a touchdown and converted their 2-point attempt and the game would be tied at 8-8 after the first quarter.
After a failed 37-yard field goal attempt by te Trojans, the Rebels drove 80 yards down the field, capping the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run by Mark Lamb. Soliday again ran the 2-point conversion, giving his squad a 16-8 lead.
Telfair would take the ensuing kickoff 78 yards to paydirt, but the Rebels maintained the lead when they opted to kick the extra point and Turner would take the 16-15 lead into the half.
The Trojans opened the second half with a 65-yard touchdown run on a reverse. Turner would then be forced to punt and Telfair would remain hot, scoring on a 67-yard run to increase their lead to 29-16.
In the final quarter, Telfair could add another touchdown on an 8-yard run before Turner responded with a 69-yard pass from Soliday to Nate Martin, the two also hooking up on the 2-point conversion.
Down 36-24 with 5:30 remaining, the Rebels recovered an onside kick, but after driving down to the 22, Soliday was picked off. Telfair immediately took advantage of the break with an 82-yard rushing touchdown and would convert the extra point, giving them a 43-24 lead, which would be the final margin.
Most of the Trojans statistical damage came in the second half, including 319 of their 379 rushing yards. Turner would finish with 262 rush yards, Soliday being the biggest ground-gainer with 203 yards on 20 carries.
