The Tiftarea Academy Panthers and Lady Panthers dominated the competition in a track meet held in Chula on Wednesday against Valwood and Citizens Christian Academy. The Lady Panthers doubled Citizens Christian, who finished second, outscoring them 79-35, with Valwood amassing 19 points. The Panthers nearly did the same. They finished first with 81 points, with Valwood scoring 45 and Citizens Christian only earning 14. The next competition will be Wednesday, March 20 when they host the Prince Invitational against several other schools.
Tiftarea’s Katherine McGarr placed second in the 3200m run at 13:57 while Shane Vandevelde won the boys race with a time of 12:55.
Summer Jordan outdistanced all of her competitors in shot put, her throw of 28-6 six feet better than the nearest competitor.
Both high jump events went to the Panthers. Rachel Thomason cleared 4-3 for first while the Panthers had the top three finishers in boys competition. Austin Stripling cleared 5-10, Jack Raines was at 5-4 and Josh Hancock was at 5-2.
Tiftarea placed first and fourth in the girls long jump, Snill getting 13-5 and Goodman leaping 10-3.The top four competitors on the boys side were all Panthers. Ethan Mims was first at 15-6, Connor Kozma second (15-5), Wesley O’Quinn, third (13-9) and Sheldon Cooper taking fourth (13-2). In triple jump Nathan Carswell was first at 33-10.5.
Jordan’s 90-11 in the girls discus toss was 25 feet better than the second place finisher. John Adams was fourth at 79-2, 15 feet behind first place.
The Tiftarea squad finished first in the 4x100m relay in the girls race and was second in the boys, finishing in 51 seconds.
The 100m hurdles belonged to Katy Johnson, whose 17.47 seconds was good for first place. In the 100m high hurdles, Taylor Dukes barely edged teammate Hancock, 20.59 seconds to 20.63, to finish first.
The Lady Panthers had the top three in the 100m dash, Madi Smith in first place (13.81 seconds), Morgan Strenth, second (14), and Rainee Baker third (14.08). Ethan Mims at 12.10 seconds came in third, a nose ahead of Stripling, who also was timed at 12.10.
The 1600m saw the girls take first and third: McGarr at 6:40.69 and Lauren Goforth at 7:41. Carswell scored another first with a time of 5:22.
In 400m, first again was swept by Tiftarea. Neeli Fortson at 1:12.04. Matt Myers’s finish was 56.25 and teammates Raines (59.63) and Dukes (69.10) were good for second and fourth.
Two more winning times came in the 300m hurdles. Johnson’s 53.31 finish in the girls race was 15 seconds better than the nearest competition, though Hancock was first by an eyelash, his 50.6 only a tenth of a second better than second place.
Kaylee Goodman finished third in the 800m with a time of 3:12.32, with Carswell and Myers taking the top two spots with identical times of 2:22.92.
The 200m was dominated by the Lady Panthers, who had the top three slots, Smith in first at 29.47, Baker at 31 seconds and Rachel Thomason third at 31.3. Mims and Stripling took care of third and fourth, with times of 25.66 and 26.5, respectively.
In the 4x400m relays, Tiftarea’s No. 1 and No. 2 girls teams won first and second prize, the No. 1 squad finishing at 3:08.94. The boys race also went in favor of Tiftarea, with their 4:08.85 12 seconds better than Valwood.

Tidal Wave takes third triumph at Georgia Games
