CORNELL, Ill. —
John Charles Zaruba, 75, of Cornell Ill. passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Flanagan, Ill. He was born Sept 16,1937 in Chicago, Ill. to the late John G. Zaruba and Elizabeth Kelenze Zaruba. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mary Ann Ralston Zaruba. They were married October 20, 1962 in St. Louis, Mo. John served in the U.S. Army from 1960-63. He was a member of the American Legion Post 21 and served as Bingo vice chairman, and also served on the fair committee. John was commander in 1995 and from 2002-03. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Garland Anderson Post 5250.
John moved to Tifton in 1986 and resided here until 2009. John worked for Peter Pan Peanut Butter for 36 years. He retired in 1998.
Survivors include his children, Sheila Ann Zaruba of Alexandria, Tenn., Janet Marie Zaruba of Tifton and John Kelly Zaruba of Cornell Ill.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Charles Holub of McHenry, Ill., Susan Laberde of Lutz, Fla., Charles Ralston of Dallas, Texas, Jim and Linda Ralston, Roland and Joyce Ralston and sister-in-law, Janet Miller Ralston, all of St. Louis, Mo. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Cremation rights were accorded and there were no services. Tift County Commissioners voted unanimously in a called meeting Tuesday to keep the millage rate set at 12.183 for both incorporated and unincorporated areas of the county.

I was able to take a trip down to Tampa this past weekend with my mom to see my niece in her dance recital.We didn’t get to see her dance in her recital. She kept saying she was sick, and we all kept saying, “You’ll be OK...it’s just nerves.”
