Work to be done with Tift basketball

TIFTON — A preseason scrimmage is held because you need to see what you have to work on for the regular season.

That is what most coaches will tell you and Tift County basketball coaches Julie Conner and Eric Holland are no exceptions.

Conner’s Lady Devils and Holland’s Blue Devils faced off against Monroe Saturday night in Tifton. The Lady Devils fell 64-63, while the Devils were victorious, 86-62.

“We would have enjoyed winning, but the things we need to work on are fixable,” said Conner.

The Lady Devils coach said the biggest problem for her team were turnovers and fouls.

“We can correct those things. That is the good thing about the scrimmage, we were able to see what we needed to work on,” said Conner.

As far as the Devils were concerned, Holland said, “We seen some positives and some negatives.

“I was very impressed with our tempo and our free throw shooting. But, I was disappointed with our defensive rotation.”

Echoing Conner, Holland said, “The scrimmage was very helpful, because we are able to see the things we need to work on as we prepare to begin the season.”

The season will begin Dec. 1 at home against Westover.
