Mrs. Martha Raye Golden Harrell, 92, of Tifton passed away at Golden Living Center on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Charles Parker and Dr. Fred Evers officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Josh Harrell, Matthew Harrell, Ian Harrell, Wesley Johns, Reagan Williams, and Ryan Branch will serve as pallbearers. The Senior Adult Department of Northside Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Harrell was born July 28, 1920 in Worth County to Benjamin A. and Mattie Jo McCord Golden, both deceased. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Mallie Frank Harrell who died Jan. 11, 1970; three brothers, Bill Golden, Bob Golden, and Ben Golden; and one granddaughter, Paige Harrell Funk.
Mrs. Harrell was known as a happy person. Through the years she had been employed at Roddenberry Hardware and the Rural Development Center in Tifton. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and socializing with her friends. Mrs. Harrell was a long-time member of Northside Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a Sunday School teacher. She was very active and faithful at Northside as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Harrell graduated from Tift County High School in 1938 and was in the original group to receive a Varsity letter in cheerleading.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Bill and Carolyn Harrell of Evans, Bob and Judy Harrell of Gainesville, Fla., Benny and Laura Harrell of Cartersville, and Doug and Jeani Harrell of Gainesville, Ga.; two daughters and one son-in-law Marty and T.C. Greer of Chula and Elizabeth Greer (Libby) Harrell of Tifton; 10 grandchildren, Georgia McGill, Mandy Williams, Anna Branch, Rusty Greer, Becki Wilson, Ian Harrell, Josh Harrell, Matthew Harrell, Marc Johns, and Wesley Johns; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Mrs. Rhunelle Branch of Chula.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to SouthernCare Hospice, Inc., 412 First Street, S.E., Moultrie, Ga. 31768.
