Tiftarea prepared to host Sherwood

TIFTON — The Tiftarea Academy Panthers open up their 2012 home football schedule tonight with a visit from the Sherwood Christian Academy Eagles from Albany.

“Sherwood is a storied program from the movie, ‘Facing the Giants’,” said Tiftarea Head Coach Ryan Branch. “They are always a strong team.”

Tiftarea fell 28-14 last week against Terrell Academy, Sherwood was also defeated in their season opener by Trinity Christian.

“They are coming in 0-1, but they have a good team. They have some athletes that will kill you,” said Branch.

To prepare for Shewood, Branch said, “We have had a great week of practice. We are looking forward to a good game. We are also excited about getting to play in the ‘Chula Dome’.”

Game time is 7:30 p.m. tonight in Chula.

In other area games, Worth County will be in Adel to face the Cook High Hornets in what should be a special “black and gold battle.” Also, Irwin will host Taylor County, Berrien will be on the road at Calhoun County, while Turner will make the short trek up Interstate 75 to face the Crisp County Cougars.

Tift County will open its season tomorrow night at 7 in Albany against the Westover High Patriots.
