TIFTON —
Within the last few weeks, three arsons (two at the same location) have been reported in the Tifton area and are being investigated. Two more alleged arsons occurred over the holiday weekend — one in the city and the other in the county.
A man reported early Thursday morning that he was on his way to work when he noticed that a house, located in the 1500 block of U.S. Highway 319 North, was on fire, according to an incident report filed at the Tift County Sheriff’s Office.
An officer reported that upon his arrival, the house was consumed by flames. The scene was turned over to the Tifton-Tift County Fire Department, the report states.
According to a separate incident report filed Saturday at the Tifton Police Department, an officer responded to a vehicle fire in the woods behind a residence in the area of Clint Circle. He reported that upon arriving on scene, he saw black smoke several yards in the woods behind the mobile home.
The officer stated in the report that he walked several yards down a path and saw a vehicle on fire, fully engulfed in flames. He reported that he checked to see if anyone was inside the vehicle, but couldn’t tell.
The report states that the local fire department arrived on scene and put the fire out. The car was burned so badly that the tag was destroyed, the officer reported.
It was discovered that the vehicle, a white 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, had been reported stolen, the report states.
Other fires reported in late August were at Budget Car Sales on U.S. Highway 82 West and two fires at the same location, H & H Convenience Store on South Main Street. All three incidents are being investigated as arson.
Additional information on the fires that occurred over the holiday weekend was unavailable before presstime.
