TIFTON —
Final results were not known at presstime, but of the six counties in the Tiftarea that were a part of the Southern Georgia District, Irwin was the only one that appeared to be in favor of the Special Local Option Sales Tax for Transportation or T-SPLOST.
Final results showed Irwin County approving the tax by a 1,003-977 margin. Partial results for the other counties showed the T-SPLOST being rejected by varying margins. That included Tift, 4,177-3,771; Ben Hill, 1,208-846; Berrien, 2,024-1,616; Cook, 1,823-1,545; and Turner, 826-579.
At presstime, the no vote was winning throughout the district by a 34, 296-25,556 margin.
The only county in the Tiftarea that is a part of the Southwest Georgia District is Worth. Final results there saw voters reject the T-SPLOST by 2,659-2,021 margin. The no votes were also leading across the district, by a total of 31,220-23,805 margin.
At presstime, T-SPLOST was only leading in three districts, the Central Savannah River Area; the River Valley; and the Heart of Georgia Altamaha.
