TIFTON —
Dan Sutton has been named publisher/ad director of The Tifton Gazette and is already at work in his new role.
Sutton is a native of Cordele and has worked in newspapers for 40 years with Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc., Republic Newspapers, Landmark Community Newspapers and Thomson Newspapers.
He began his career in newspapers in 1972 at The Cordele Dispatch, where he was assistant circulation manager before moving to the advertising department and eventually being named advertising director in 1980.
After 15 years in Cordele, he transferred to the Thomasville Times Enterprise as advertising director and then moved on to work as the ad director in Valdosta and Dalton, and several out of state newspaper locations before joining the Americus Times Recorder as advertising director in 2004. Sutton was named publisher of the Cordele Dispatch in 2005, and then became publisher/ad director of the Americus Times-Recorder in 2007 where he’s been serving until becoming publisher/ad director of the Gazette earlier this week.
"I am very excited to be able to bring someone with the background, knowledge and excitement for doing his job to the Tifton community. Dan is a very outgoing leader that rolls up his sleeves and works hard every day to insure our customers are given the very best products and services possible," said Jeff Masters, Senior VP/Division Manager for Community Newspaper Holdings, Incorporated, the parent company of the Tifton Gazette.
Sutton and his wife, the former Kay Tyson of Cordele, have two children and five grandchildren. His son, Kerry and his wife Mandy live in Valdosta with their three children, Monica, Colby and Mallory, and their daughter, Farrah Murphy and her husband, Keith, also live in Valdosta and have two sons, Carson and Landon.
In his leisure time, Sutton enjoys walking and spending time outside doing yard work.
"South Georgia is home to me and my wife, Kay," Sutton said, "and I am grateful for being picked to serve as the new publisher/ad director of the Tifton Gazette. I know Tifton is a growing community and I look forward to working with business and industry leaders throughout Tifton, Tift County and the other counties the Gazette covers. It’s also like a dream come true to be able to live this close to our kids and grandkids.
"I am proud to be part of the Tifton Gazette team and we are dedicated to serving our customer needs whether it be through advertising products and services or making sure our subscribers receive their papers on time each and every day. I want our customers and readers to know they can pick up the phone, email or come by and visit with me at any time. I will be riding with our ad reps in the near future to get out to meet our business owners and advertisers."
