TIFTON —
The Tiftarea Academy Panthers are hoping that homecoming tonight against the Crisp Academy Wildcats will be an extra special night.
Tiftarea is trying for its first win of the season under Ryan Branch who is in his first season as head coach. Crisp has three wins, against only loss. This will be the first meeting between the school schools since 2005.
Crisp Academy also started 3-1 last year, but were not as dominating as they have been this year. It was not until last week that the Wildcats even surrendered a single point. Their first three games saw them roll over Siloam’s Nathanael Greene, 40-0, John Hancock Academy of Sparta, 54-0, and notch their first ever win over Macon’s Covenant Academy, 27-0.
The snapping of the shutout streak also saw the end of the Wildcats’ winning streak. Terrell Academy won last week’s game 21-14.
The Dawson team is the only opponent the two teams have had in common, with the Panthers dropping their game to Terrell Academy by two touchdowns.
Terrell is not the only close game the Panthers have experienced. With the exception of last week, Tiftarea has been edged in every game this season. Sherwood Christian beat them, 39-25, Southwest Georgia Academy 27-14, and the Panthers led late in their game with Brookwood School before a late score gave the Warriors a 20-14 win.
Last Friday, Westwood Academy defeated Tiftarea, 57-0.
History has been kind to the Panthers in their series against Crisp. Tiftarea has won the last four games in the series, dating back to 1998. Overall, they have a 9-3 advantage.
Tiftarea Academy will finally start its region schedule next week when they open with Pinewood Christian in a game at Bellville.

Tattnall Square tops Tiftarea, 6-2
Ernie Banks used to say, "let's play two." In a game that was as long as two and was defined early on by errors and later by a pitching duel, it would be offense that propelled the Tattnall Square Trojans past the Tiftarea Academy Panthers, 6-2 in 14 innings. Tattnall, who won the first game of the series, 4-1 before dropping game two, 6-3, will meet Mount de Sales in the Class AAA semifinals next week.
