Changes coming to Tifton Elks

TIFTON — The Tifton Elks Lodge will be making some big changes this year, including changes with entertainment, says local attorney Patrick Kunes.

He stated that Cam Eaton and Heath Barry will be heading up a Elks Membership Drive Friday, Jan. 18 at the Tifton Elks Lodge, located at 422 Victory Drive N.

The event will start at 7 p.m. and admission is $5 per person. Entertainment will include karaoke. Chicken wings, oysters and other hors d’oeuvres will be served, as well as kegs of beer.

On Saturday, Jan. 19, the Elks Lodge will be hosting a Jazz Dinner Night, featuring the Tift County High School’s jazz band. This event will start at 7 p.m. Kunes said he was able to set up this event with the help of new band director Dante Flowers.

Admission is $15 per person or $25 per couple. One complimentary beverage per person will be served. Kunes said those interested in attending this event must RSVP by Tuesday, Jan. 15 with their name and choice of chicken or pasta. Contact Robin at the Elks Lodge at 382-4787.

Kunes noted that during the event, donations/tips for the band would be appreciated.

Upcoming acts for February will include Soul Gravy of Saint Simons Island from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Feb. 9 in the Elks Lodge’s ballroom. Admission is $5 at the door. Kunes said Soul Gravy is a four-piece soul/rock band with a great female vocalist.

Also, Moultrie singer and songwriter Daniel Parrish will perform at the Elks Lodge from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 and Friday, Feb. 22 in the lounge. Admission is free but tips are appreciated.

“All events are open to the public,” Kunes stated. “We’re trying to get new members in there.”

He said the Elks Lodge is a nonprofit organization.

“We do a lot of charities throughout the year,” he stated. “We’re open to new members.”

Kunes said they’re planning on doing a lot more entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights, where solo acts will perform on Fridays and full bands will perform in the ballroom on Saturdays. They plan to provide this entertainment at least two Fridays and two Saturdays a month.

In addition, the Elks Lodge is cutting their application fee from $100 to $30, which is a one-time fee for members, Kunes said. He also noted that members normally pay $300 annually in dues. Members will still be allowed to pay this amount upfront or they now have the option of paying $30 a month (you can set up an automatic draft from your bank account). Members also the option of paying $150 every six months.

Kunes said they’re also looking at cutting their rental fee for the ballroom. Contact Louise Spradley, who recently retired from the Tift County Sheriff’s Office, at 392-3871 for more information.

“We’re aggressively trying to rent it out for parties,” Kunes said.
