Another arrest made in Worth Co. school bomb threats

TIFTON — A 10-year-old Worth County Elementary School student was taken into custody Friday morning and was charged with the bomb threat of the elementary school on Wednesday after a series of bomb threats this week at Worth County schools.

According to a statement from Lt. Ronnie Graddy with the Criminal Investigation Division at the Sylvester Police Department, which was provided by the Worth County Board of Education, the juvenile is responsible for the message that caused the elementary school to be evacuated Wednesday morning.

The 10-year-old student is being charged with terroristic threats and acts, transmitting false report of alarm and disruption of a public school. Investigations are still ongoing for the two other bomb threats, according to the statement.

Graddy also released the following statement Wednesday afternoon after another juvenile was arrested for a bomb threat at Worth County High School: “This morning a juvenile was taken into custody and charged with the bomb threat of Worth County High School, called into Worth 911 on Jan. 28.”

He reported that the juvenile was charged with terroristic threats and acts, transmitting false report of an alarm and disruption of a public school.

Also, four additional juveniles were taken into custody Wednesday afternoon and were charged with a bomb threat of Worth County Middle School Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.

Graddy said in his statement that the four juveniles were charged with terroristic threats and acts, transmitting false report of an alarm and disruption of a public school. He explained that the transmitting false report of an alarm also holds the juvenile and/or their families responsible for restitution of all cost as a result of the bomb threats.

Also, a parent of one of the juveniles was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct as a result of their action upon arrival at the school.

Graddy had stated that the Sylvester Police Department is committed to

locating and charging all that are involved.

According to statements from the Worth County Board of Education, during the series of bomb threats at the high school, middle school and elementary school, students were safely evacuated from the buildings.

One press release stated, following Wednesday’s bomb threats at the elementary and middle schools, “Staff, students, community and authorities are to be commended for the outstanding job responding to the situation.”
