Tifton man injured in fire

TIFTON — A Tifton man was injured Friday when a single-wide mobile home on 27th Street near South Ridge Avenue caught on fire. The Tifton-Tift County Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services and the Tift County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

According to Capt. Kevin Smith at the Tifton-Tift County Fire Department, the fire occurred just before noon. He said a male subject was home during the time of the fire; however, he was unable to give any details on the subject’s name or his condition before presstime.

Smith did confirm that the man had been pulled from the mobile home by civilians and was lying in the yard when EMS arrived on the scene. He stated that EMS immediately loaded the injured man into the ambulance.

Smith said it appeared that the fire started in the kitchen, but the exact cause of the fire had not been determined. The mobile home sustained heavy fire damage in the kitchen and living room area with heavy smoke throughout the rest of the home, he stated.

He said they were able to quickly knock down the fire.

The State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate the incident.
