The Marshall Tucker Band has been announced as the headliner for the second annual Dogwood Music Festival, set to take place April 27 in Moultrie.
Michigan band Greensky Bluegrass, Athens band Dead Confederate and Tallahassee’s Tobacco Rd. Band will round out the main acts. The festival will take place at Spence Field, home of the Sunbelt Expo. The Dogwood Music Festival is supported, in part, by Georgia Council for the Arts Tourism Product Development Grant in partnership with the Colquitt County Arts Center and the City of Moultrie.
The lineup was announced Saturday, Jan. 14 at a private reveal party at the Colquitt County Arts Center. Attendees were entertained with music from James Huffman and Angelie Lipscomb, Daniel Parrish and Caylee Anna. The Moultrie Service League provided hors d’oeuvres. After playing a 30 minute opening set, Dr. James Huffman announced that local artists Caylee Anna, Heath Deloach, Soul Gravy and Southern Parts will be kicking off the festival on the outdoor stage.
After Daniel Parrish performed, the regional artists were announced. This year, music will be non-stop throughout the day with the regional stage being claimed by the sounds of A Thousand Horses, Flannel Church, Sam Holt Band, Grandpa’s Cough Medicine, Major Bacon and Ike Stubblefield (artist at large).
Perhaps the highlight of the evening was an inspiring performance by Ellaville’s Caylee Anna. She wowed attendees with her vocal range, performing solo on guitar and piano. At the close of this set, the main acts were announced. Dead Confederate, a band with roots in Athens, will close out the outdoor stage for local and regional acts. Tallahassee’s Tobacco Rd. Band will open for the Marshall Tucker Band inside the Family Living Building at Spence Field. After the Marshall Tucker Band’s headlining performance, concertgoers will be entertained with a late night set by Greensky Bluegrass back on the outdoor stage.
In the coming days, the Dogwood Music Festival will be re-launching their website, www.dogwoodmusicfestival.com. Visit the website to get updates on the show, links to artist websites, frequently asked questions, ticket information and vendor and volunteer applications. Also, be sure to like their Facebook event page for chances to win VIP tickets to the show. Tickets will be available online and in select locations starting Feb. 1. Early Bird tickets will go for $17 and after that allotment is sold out, pre-sale tickets will be $22. Tickets purchased the day of the show will be $30.

Ernie Banks used to say, "let's play two." In a game that was as long as two and was defined early on by errors and later by a pitching duel, it would be offense that propelled the Tattnall Square Trojans past the Tiftarea Academy Panthers, 6-2 in 14 innings. Tattnall, who won the first game of the series, 4-1 before dropping game two, 6-3, will meet Mount de Sales in the Class AAA semifinals next week.
