TIFTON —
The Tiftarea Academy Lady Panthers swept Terrell Academy Thursday afternoon in Chula in a varsity/junior varsity doubleheader. The varsity earned a 7-0 win, while the jayvee picked up a 25-0 victory.
In the varsity game, Tiftarea was able to scrape one run across in the first inning when a sacrifice fly by Rachel Davis drove in fellow junior Madi Smith from third.
A double by senior Lakyn Souter followed by Smith's second walk of the game led to a two-run third inning when ground balls by Davis and junior Jarrett McWhorter each plated a run.
The Lady Panthers pushed two more across in the fourth as Souter's second double of the game and a fly ball to right by Smith each drove in a run.
Freshman Erin Register reached on an error to lead off the sixth and was followed by bunt singles by juniors Mackenzie McWhorter and Caitlyn Albritton. A bases-loaded walk to Souter and a single to left by Davis scored the Lady Panthers' last two runs of the game. Souter and Mackenzie McWhorter were each 2-for-3 on the afternoon, and Souter and Davis each drove in two runs.
Brooke Keen pitched all seven innings to pick up her fourth complete game shutout of the season scattering eight hits and striking out four. With the win, Tiftarea improves to 13-5 (4-0 in the region) on the season.
Coach Mike Patrick said, "This was another important region win for us. Brooke pitched well, and our offense got an early lead and was able to keep adding to it a couple runs at a time."
In the JV game that followed, the Lady Panthers used a 19-run first inning to begin the rout of the Lady Eagles of Terrell.
With the victory, the jayvee Lady Panthers went to 6-0 on the year.
Lassiter pitched a perfect first inning, inducing three ground outs. Hannah Gunter then pitched two scoreless innings, giving up no hits and striking out three. Gunter also led the Lady Panther offense going 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Lassiter, Melissa McKay and Grace Hall each had two hits, and Hall also drove in two runs.
"All of the girls played great defense when their chance came in the field," coach Magan Garren said. "They were all patient at the plate and put the ball in play, and both Ragen and Hannah pitched well."
Next week will be a busy week for Tiftarea softball. The varsity plays Georgia Christian at home tomorrow at 4 p.m., while the junior varsity will face Southland Academy after that encounter.
Another home game will come Tuesday when Tiftarea hosts Sherwood in another varsity/junior varsity twinbill.

I was able to take a trip down to Tampa this past weekend with my mom to see my niece in her dance recital. We didn’t get to see her dance in her recital. She kept saying she was sick, and we all kept saying, “You’ll be OK...it’s just nerves.”
