In a game full of penalties on both teams, the Tiftarea Academy Panthers fell 27-14 to the Southwest Georgia Academy Warriors Friday night in Chula.
Tiftarea began the first drive of the game on their own 18 yardline. Fourteen plays, six penalties and nearly five minutes later Rob Flick found Zach Beier for a 15-yard touchdown reception. Logan Brown's extra point gave Tiftarea a 7-0 lead, but the Warriors struck back.
On their first drive, Southwest Georgia kept the ball on the ground for 10 straight plays before throwing two passes. On the second of those passes, Will Warren caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Clay Bell. The extra point by Alex Chambless tied the game at 7-7.
The Panthers moved the ball well again on their second drive, another 14-play drive covering 50 yards. A big 10-yard penalty on first down from the Warrior 22 yardline helped put an end to Tiftarea's second drive.
After trading punts, SGA took over for their third drive on their own 30 yardline. After a 13-yard run on first down, Warren took it 57 yards for the touchdown. Chambless' extra point gave SGA a 14-7 lead.
The Warriors started the second half on their own 44 yardline after a 21-yard return by Teel Massey. After four straight runs by Massey set them up in Panther territory, Corey Smith broke loose for a 37-yard touchdown run. The Chambless extra point made it 21-7 SGA.
On the ensuing drive, Tiftarea drove the ball to the SGA 33-yard line before having to punt. After Bailey Cunningham recovered a Warren fumble, the Panthers were stopped on a fourth-and-one from the Warrior 46-yard line. SGA turned it over again as James Allen Bryant recovered a fumble by Smith
The Panthers were moving the ball well on six straight runs, but gave the ball back to the Warriors on a Ethan Mims' fumble.
After trading punts again, Warren found the end zone for the third time on a 56-yard reception from Bell. Tiftarea blocked the extra point with 6:22 left in the game to keep the score 27-7.
After driving to the Warrior 24 yardline, SGA recovered a fumble by Flick with 4:34 left, and ran three more minutes off the clock before punting the ball back to the Panthers.
As time expired, Flick hooked up with Joseph Spinks on an 11-yard touchdown pass. Brown's extra point made it a 27-14 final.
Flick ended the night completing 17 of his 34 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Beier caught four passes for 39 yards, while Connor Kozma had four catches for 37 yards. Mims led the Panthers with 26 carries for 136 yards.
Tiftarea falls to 0-3 on the season and plays Brookwood in Thomasville next Friday at 7:30.

May 21 Column – George F. Will
Leaving aside the seriousness of lawlessness, and the corruption of our civic culture by the professionally pious, this past week has been amusing. There was the spectacle of advocates of an ever-larger regulatory government expressing shock about such government's large capacity for misbehavior. And, entertainingly, the answer to the question "Will Barack Obama's scandals derail his second-term agenda?" was a question: What agenda?
