Joyce Pitts

ENIGMA — Marilyn “Joyce” Henderson Pitts, 63, of Enigma died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012 at Tift Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. Mark Stone will officiate with a private burial to be held at a later date.

Mrs. Pitts was born on Jan. 6, 1949 in Warren, Mich., and was the daughter of Doy T. Henderson of Tucson, Ariz., and Nona Goodman Henderson Dove of Lakeland, Fla. She was a seamstress with Regency Cap & Gown and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by one sister.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pitts is survived by her husband, Barry Pitts of Enigma; a son, Michael Pitts of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Connie Isaac of Jacksonville, Fla.; three brothers, Gary Henderson, Don Dove of Brookfield and Preston Dove of Albany; a sister, Jean Pitts of Lakeland, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Samantha Pitts and Anthony Pitts, both of Woodbine.

Eighth Street Middle School student Blake Becton, 14, was shocked Tuesday morning to see his parents and representatives Wes Hunter and Erik Lobzun with Woodmen of the World standing in the front office to present him with the American History Award. ESMS student Whit Carpenter received the award last year. Lobzun said it is presented each year. He stated, “We like to recognize excellence in the community.” Hunter said Becton’s dedication and hard work earned him the award.
