After posting an impressive 25-5 record and winning the Region 1-AAAAAA championship, honors continue to pour in for the 2012 Tift County Lady Devils softball team.
It was announced Wednesday that freshman Adriana Durden has been named the Region 1-AAAAAA Player of the Year. The vote was done by the league’s coaches.
During her first varsity campaign, Durden was outstanding.
She posted a 12-1 record, with an 1,08 ERA. In 91 innings of work, Durden struck out 145 and only posted five walks, a 29-to-1 ratio.
Other Lady Devils who were named first-team All Region 1-AAAAAA were junior infielder Allison Walker, junior catcher Taylor Simmons, senior outfielder Chelle McKellar and senior utility player Ashlyn Jones.
Walker had 35 runs scored, a .336 batting average and 28 stolen bases during 2012.
Simmons had 10 doubles, one home run, 31 RBIs, 21 runs scored and a .298 batting average.
McKellar posted three doubles, one triple, 12 RBIS, 26 RBIs, a .376 batting average and 14 stolen bases.
Finally, Jones had a 12-3 pitching record with one save during the year. She had a 1.03 ERA, and sruck out 101 and walked eight in 88 innings of work.
Between the work of Jones and Durden, the duo struck out 246 and walked only 13 in 179 innings of work.
On top of all of that, the Lady Devils’ Taylor Wilkins was also named the 1-AAAAAA Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches.

Tift County Commissioners voted unanimously in a called meeting Tuesday to keep the millage rate set at 12.183 for both incorporated and unincorporated areas of the county.

I was able to take a trip down to Tampa this past weekend with my mom to see my niece in her dance recital.We didn’t get to see her dance in her recital. She kept saying she was sick, and we all kept saying, “You’ll be OK...it’s just nerves.”
