Our Opinion: OK...so here’s why...

Everyone has questions. Everyone has opinions. Not everyone gets it. So each Friday, I’ll be writing on an informational slant in my column space, and maybe we’ll all get a little, as my Mama would say, “edumacated.”

This week, I have heard a variety of commentary on the newspaper. A lot of it has been positive, but I have heard a little negative as well. Some folks have said they don’t understand why we don’t cover more state and national news.

OK...so here’s why...

We are a community newspaper. It really is that simple. You can find an almost exponential amount of sources online, as well as printed products, that carry state and local news. But there’s only one source that is all Tifton, all the time. And that’s The Gazette. This is as it should be.

To clarify, we will still cover state and national news when the it is appropriate, but you are going to see more and more local coverage in our pages. No one else is going to cover Tifton and Tift County better than us -- I can promise you that. No other news organization cares more about what matters to Tifton and Tift County than us. Each edition will show that increasingly in the coming weeks and months.

On a different note, you may not realize that we have moved into the 21st Century, and like millions of other folks, we’re on Facebook and Twitter. Like our page on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ tifton.gazette, and follow us on Twitter at twitter.com/TiftonGazette1.
