Olive Garden breaks ground

TIFTON — Tifton continues to progress with many new businesses opening in the area, and after hearing rumors over the past months, citizens will be glad to know that it has been made official, Olive Garden will definitely be opening in Tifton in 2013.

According to a press release from Brian Marlowe, president/CEO of the Tift County Development Authority and the Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce, “The Tift County Development Authority and the Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce are excited to announce the scheduled opening of Olive Garden for March of 2013. Olive Garden will be located next to Starbucks on Highway 82 at the I-75 interchange.”

The press release further states that Olive Garden is one of a family of restaurants owned by Darden Restaurants, Inc. Other Darden restaurants include Red Lobster, LongHorn Steakhouse, The Capital Grille, Bahama Breeze, Eddie V’s and Seasons 52. The company owns and operates more than 1,900 restaurants across North America, employing approximately 180,000 workers.

“We are excited to share the news with the community that plans are underway for the opening of an Olive Garden here in Tifton. We have enjoyed Darden Restaurants’ presence in Tifton for nearly 20 years beginning with Red Lobster and then LongHorn Steakhouse. We are pleased that they have made the decision to expand their footprint in our community. Partnerships are important to our economic success; therefore, we would like to recognize the Stafford Development Company team. This project would not have been possible without their leadership and support,” stated Marlowe.

He explained in the press release that this project represents approximately 70 permanent new jobs, numerous construction jobs and significant local investment. The Olive Garden will also be a major contributor of local sales tax, which supports numerous public capital projects and services.
