CORDELE —
An attempted traffic stop in Crisp County led to a three county chase, which ended with the suspect’s apprehension in Tift County.
Arrested was 29-year old Jason Spencer Blythe of Easley, S.C.
At 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, Crisp County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Keon Sales was on routine patrol on Interstate 75 when the laser he was operating checked Blythe driving a 2005 Lexus SC430 at 84 mph in a 70 mph zone.
According to Sales, he attempted to stop the offender, but the vehicle kept going, and he initiated a pursuit. At the 97 mile marker southbound ramp, Blythe attempted to run Deputy Kenny Purvis off the roadway. The pursuit continued through both Turner and Tift counties with those agencies giving assistance in the chase.
When he entered Tift County, Blythe exited I-75 at Exit 66 and proceeded to Highway 41 South, where he collided with a Tift County sheriff’s deputy’s vehicle.
Further investigation into the incident led to the discovery that the Lexus Blythe was driving had been reported stolen. Found inside the vehicle was an unknown amount of suspected marijuana.
Blythe was arrested and transported to the Crisp County Detention Center. He faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of marijuana and theft by receiving stolen property.
