TRMC honors staff members

TIFTON — Tift Regional Medical Center (TRMC) saluted staff members at its annual awards banquet held Oct. 22 at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center.

TRMC presented Sarah Thompson with the John B. Prince, III Distinguished Service Award.  Named after the chairman of the Tift County Hospital Authority, the John B. Prince, III Distinguished Service Award recognizes a longstanding associate of TRMC who is also an established leader in the community, using their influence to enhance the mission of the hospital.   Thompson is TRMC’s vice president of operations, responsible for the hospital’s expansion and renovation projects. She also provides administrative oversight for various support departments.

TRMC named Judy Shiflet with Physician and Community Relations as the hospital’s Dr. Sammie D. Dixon Employee of the Year.  Dixon, a retired OB/GYN physician and hospital executive, provides an endowment to TRMC each year to recognize employees of the month and employee of the year.   Phyllis Purvis of the Emergency Room was named Hidden Hero of the Year.

The winners of the 2012 Jensen Nursing Excellence Awards, presented the same evening, were Caroline Perry, RN, BSN of the Intensive Care Unit and Sheila McCard, LPN of Affinity Clinic. Toni Wilson, RN of Orthopedics received the Diane Patrick Nursing Excellence Award.  Local agricultural businessman Ray Jensen established the Jensen and Diane Patrick Nursing Excellence Awards through the TRMC Foundation to recognize three TRMC bedside nurses who demonstrate unusual concern for the welfare and happiness of patients.

The TRMC Foundation recognized Dr. Kent Burton, a family practice and wound care physician based in Tifton, with the Exceptional Physician Award for 2012.  Dr. Steve Rigdon with Affinity Clinic, the 2011 recipient of the same award, presented the honor to Dr. Burton for his longstanding commitment to quality, compassionate care.

TRMC also saluted employees with five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service.  In addition to receiving the John B. Prince, III Distinguished Service Award, Sarah Thompson was recognized for her 45 years of service to TRMC.  She first joined the hospital in 1967, rising through the years from executive secretary to vice president.

TRMC president/CEO William T. Richardson was master of ceremonies for the event.  Chad Waldron provided the invocation and Kim Barnes, RN and Mark Taylor performed special musical entertainment.   Chris Efaw, Kirsten Ponsell, MSW, Michael Lasseter, RN and Todd Veazey, CRNA offered inspirational messages throughout the evening.
