Bids for Kids Telethon Auction set for Saturday

TIFTON — The Exchange Club of Tifton will host the 20th annual Bids for Kids Television Auction from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday. The special project will benefit the agencies involved in helping to prevent and treat child abuse in Tifton and Tift County.

“This will be a great event,” comments Thad Paulk, president of the club. “Over $30,000 in cash and auction items have been donated by area merchants and friends of the Exchange Club. We are most appreciative of this tremendous support.”

Paulk said that Tift County is pressed for resources to handle all the cases involved in child abuse and neglect. Tift County had 580 child abuse cases reported last year.

Paulk said, “A child is a wonderful gift, and neglect and abuse are not an option in today’s world.”

The live auction will feature over 200 items that will be offered to the highest bidder on the Butterfly Broadcasting Network, Mediacom and Plant TiftNet Channel 11, Wiregrass TV, Plant TiftNet Channel 3, wiregrasstv.com and 105.7 Hook FM from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday. All items will be published in Saturday’s Tifton Gazette. When bidding, the bidder will give the volunteer the board number, the item’s name, personal phone number and the bid. The number to call will be 391-9800.

“We have everything from diamonds to gift certificates and home décor to weekend retreats. The K Board, I Board, D Board and S Boards will rotate during the auction. We also have a Big Board that will rotate and the Mega Board will be auctioned live at 9:30 p.m.,” said Past President and Emcee Tyron Spearman.

The Exchange Club of Tifton has raised over $250,000 over the 20 years of the production. The club has won the coveted Care Award from the Exchange Foundation that honors clubs that sponsor the most effective and innovative child abuse prevention projects. The Exchange Club meets at noon every Monday at the Hilton Garden Inn. Anyone interested in helping to fight child abuse is welcome to join.
