ALAPAHA —
Irene Wright, 94, of Alapaha died Saturday Feb. 23, 2013 at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Min. Richard Dale officiating. Interment will follow at Fletcher Cemetery. Visitationwill be held from 6 until 8 p.m.
She was born March 28, 1918 in Prentiss County, Mississippi to the late Zeb Fortner and the late Ollie Barnes. She was a homemaker and together with her husband owned and operated the Alapaha Cafe for many years. She was a member of the Nashville Church of Christ. She was the widow of Brooks Wright and also preceded in death by a son, Terry Wright, son-in-law, Aaron Pierce, and two brothers, Max L. Fortner and Zeb Fortner, Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Pierce of Alapaha; daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Wright of Alapaha; three grandchildren, Dr. Craig Pierce, Lisa Purvis and Tina Dees; great-grandchildren, Blair Hagood and Brantley Barrentine; great-great granddaughter, Kaylee Hagood; brother, Vernon Fortner of Houston, Miss.; and two sisters, Eloise Beard and Faye Caldwell both of Booneville, Miss.
Lovein Funeral Home, Nashville is in charge of arrangements.

Tattnall Square tops Tiftarea, 6-2
Ernie Banks used to say, "let's play two." In a game that was as long as two and was defined early on by errors and later by a pitching duel, it would be offense that propelled the Tattnall Square Trojans past the Tiftarea Academy Panthers, 6-2 in 14 innings. Tattnall, who won the first game of the series, 4-1 before dropping game two, 6-3, will meet Mount de Sales in the Class AAA semifinals next week.
