TIFTON —
The Tifton Gazette welcomed Angye Morrison as its new editor Monday. Morrison comes to Tifton from Tallahassee, Fla., but is a Georgia native, hailing from Lincoln County.
Morrison is a graduate of Augusta State University, which was recently renamed Georgia Regents University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in journalism and communications. After spending the first several years of her career as a reporter and photographer in Richmond, Columbia and McDuffie counties in Georgia, Morrison was promoted to managing editor at the McDuffie Progress in Thomson.
In 2004, Morrison accepted a position as managing editor for the Nassau County Record in Callahan, Fla., where she remained for a little more than four years. During her tenure, the paper increased in circulation, added new features, increased local coverage and added a website.
Morrison became managing editor of the Gadsden County Times in Quincy, Fla., in 2008. The Times also saw an increase in circulation, and underwent a complete “makeover,” bringing a more modern look to its pages.
During the past couple of years, Morrison has worked with a private marketing firm in Tallahassee, concentrating on website development and search engine optimization.
“The last couple of years has been a departure for me,” Morrison said. “Getting used to working outside the newsroom was an adjustment, and I did enjoy it. I learned a great deal that I believe will be an advantage for our local paper here in Tifton. I plan to put my experience to work to open up the community to greater and better coverage both in print and online.”
Morrison added that she missed the newsroom terribly, and couldn’t wait to get back to doing what she loves best.
“I have ink in my blood,” she said. “I truly love community newspapers and what they bring to the community. Local news is the life blood of any town. I will do my best to make sure that every time you pick up a copy of The Tifton Gazette, you will be holding the best source of information on Tifton and Tift County. Period.”
Dan Sutton, publisher of The Tifton Gazette, added he is proud to make the appointment of Morrison as editor of the Gazette. "Angye fully understands community journalism and will be a wonderful asset to the Gazette. After Flo Rankin’s untimely death late last year, the search began to find the right person to guide our editorial staff. After going through several resumes and meeting with Angye, I knew she was the right person for the job," he said.
The Gazette owns the local franchise for local community news and events and its mission is to bring this content to its readers in a factual, concise manner. Please free to come by and with Angye at anytime during the business week. In the meantime, if you have news tips to share with Angye please call her at 382-4321 or e-mail her at angye.morrison@gaflnews.com.
