TIFTON —
Closing arguments in the trial of Ruby Evans will begin at 9 a.m. today at the Tift County Courthouse.
Evans is charged with murder and conspiracy in the death of Sunday Blombergh, the mother of Evans' grandchild.
Blombergh's body was found May 27, 2010 in Colquitt County, in woods near the end of Vickers Bridge Road near the Tift County line. She had been reported missing April 22, 2010 from the home at 49 Briarwood Lane where she lived with Ruby Evans and Evans' husband, Roy Herman Evans.
Roy Herman Evans pleaded guilty to murder in July 2011 and was sentenced to life in prison; he will be eligible for parole in 30 years.
The jury in Ruby Evans' has heard testimony from Herman Evans; from his friend, Kenneth Randall Tomlinson, who was charged with concealing Blombergh's death by helping Herman Evans hide her body; and Theo Conoly, Ruby Evans' son.
After the state rested Wednesday, Ruby Evans told Superior Court Judge Melanie Cross that she did not want to testify.
Earlier in the afternoon, the GBI agent who interviewed Ruby Evans read her statement, in which she said she did not want Blombergh to raise her son's daughter.
"I probably said I wished she was dead every day," Evans said according to the statement.
"I feel guilty because he (Herman) did it for me."
Ruby Evans said in the statement that Herman told her he shot Blombergh in the head, went back and saw she was still alive and then stabbed her in the heart.
The day after Blombergh was killed, Ruby Evans said in the statement, there was "no blood, no mess, but no Sunday either."
The couple reported Blomburgh missing a few days later.

Tattnall Square tops Tiftarea, 6-2
Ernie Banks used to say, "let's play two." In a game that was as long as two and was defined early on by errors and later by a pitching duel, it would be offense that propelled the Tattnall Square Trojans past the Tiftarea Academy Panthers, 6-2 in 14 innings. Tattnall, who won the first game of the series, 4-1 before dropping game two, 6-3, will meet Mount de Sales in the Class AAA semifinals next week.
