McRAE —
Shirley H. Douglas, 68, of McRae died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at Savannah Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Rebecca with the Rev. Ralph Horne officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will held from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Frazier and Son Funeral Home.
Mrs. Douglas was born March 28, 1944 in Tifton. She was the daughter of the late Travis Hester and Claudie Belle Holton Hester. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, William Douglas of McRae; two sons, William "Bubba" (Patricia) Douglas of Abbeville and Terry Wayne Douglas of Pineview; a daughter, Sherry (Guy) Horne of Eastman; a brother, J.C. Hester of Tifton; two sisters, Elizabeth Lassiter of Tifton and Barbara Jo Horton of Tifton; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family may be contacted at the residence of Bubba and Patricia Douglas, 732 Willingham Rd., Abbeville.

“Keep calm and stop the violence,” “Save our streets” and “No more violence” were the words echoed by Eighth Street Middle School students early Tuesday morning as they stood in front of the school behind caution tape and orange cones, shouting and holding up signs as they waved at passing motorists who smiled and returned the gesture.

Two from Tift named 1st team All-Region
The Tift County Blue Devils, who were only just barely eliminated in the state quarterfinals, placed two players on the All-Region team for 1-AAAAAA. The region, which sent three teams to the elite eight in the state tournament, named Lowndes’ Danny Redshaw Coach of the Year.
