TIFTON —
The Tift County Lady Devils nosed out a late victory over the Lowndes Vikettes in Valdosta to win the Region 1-AAAAAA softball title. Tift won the first game of the doubleheader, 3-2, and dropped the second, 3-0. They had needed to win only one of the two games to clinch the title.
Logan Little’s RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh drove in Rebecca Sexton and broke a 2-2 tie. The Lady Devils were able to hang on in the bottom of the inning to win the game.
Courtney Waldrop had two hits and an RBI, Allison Walker had a hit and a run scored, Taylor Simmons had one hit and a run scored and Chelsea Thomas also had a hit and a run scored. Also contributing for the Lady Devils were Chelle McKellar with two hits and Callie McAllister with two hits.
Freshman Adriana Durden picked up the win for Tift, giving up two earned runs, two hits and struck out 11.
The Lady Devils improve their overall record this year to 25-3.
The next game for Tift County will be Wed., Oct. 10, when they host the first round of the state tournament against an opponent yet to be determined.

County millage rate remains same
Tift County Commissioners voted unanimously in a called meeting Tuesday to keep the millage rate set at 12.183 for both incorporated and unincorporated areas of the county.

I was able to take a trip down to Tampa this past weekend with my mom to see my niece in her dance recital.We didn’t get to see her dance in her recital. She kept saying she was sick, and we all kept saying, “You’ll be OK...it’s just nerves.”
