Irwin Co. magistrate race ends in a tie

TIFTON — There was an interesting outcome in one of three Irwin County primary elections that was noted in Friday’s Gazette.

In the race for Irwin Chief Magistrate, Jackie Bracewell and Heather Cleghorn Culpepper will be in an Aug. 21 runoff as both candidates finished Tuesday’s primary with 745 votes. Coming up behind that duo was Charlotte Middlebrooks with 324 votes, and Isaac “Ike” Thomas with 194 votes. There was also one write-in vote.

Two incumbent members of the Irwin County Board of Education were both re-elected in tight races.

In the BOE’s District 2, Lamar Purvis just edged Joe Portier, 172-167. There were also three write-in votes.

The District 3 race for the BOE saw Gary Paulk defeat Josh Branch, 246-216.
