TIFTON —
The Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College literary magazine Pegasus will host the first fall Open Microphone Reading at Rockin’ Joe’s Espresso on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
This will be a monthly opportunity for writers from ABAC and the Tifton community to read aloud their original work or a favorite writer’s work that inspires them. Readers are limited to eight minutes. Acoustic musicians are also welcome to take part in this event. Musicians are limited to five minutes.
Performers and readers should limit themselves to two or three short poems, one short piece of fiction, or a song. There will be a sign-up sheet on the night of the event.
Dr. Jeff Newberry, faculty co-advisor for Pegasus, said he appreciated Rockin’ Joe's for allowing the open microphone night. Rockin’ Joe’s is located at 1811 Hwy 41 N., just a short drive from ABAC's campus.

“Keep calm and stop the violence,” “Save our streets” and “No more violence” were the words echoed by Eighth Street Middle School students early Tuesday morning as they stood in front of the school behind caution tape and orange cones, shouting and holding up signs as they waved at passing motorists who smiled and returned the gesture.

Two from Tift named 1st team All-Region
The Tift County Blue Devils, who were only just barely eliminated in the state quarterfinals, placed two players on the All-Region team for 1-AAAAAA. The region, which sent three teams to the elite eight in the state tournament, named Lowndes’ Danny Redshaw Coach of the Year.
