— Lorenzo Johnson, 50, of Ashburn died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 in Augusta. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at St. John Baptist Church in Sunsweet. Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Johnson, Lavonya Johnson and Shameka Johnson, all of Orlando, Fla.; parents, Willie Mae and Delawrence Albert of Tifton, and James and Doris Johnson of Ashburn; brothers, Ricky Johnson, Michael Johnson, Jackie Johnson, Boris Johnson, Jermaine Johnson, Brett Johnson, Mario Johnson, Justin Johnson, Jasper Johnson and Morris Johnson; and sisters, Jane Johnson, Malodree Johnson, Wanda Johnson, Faye Johnson, Belinda Johnson, Harriet Johnson, Barbara Johnson, Tina Randle and Lanette Green. Tift County almost pulled off an incredible feat this year, having two teams in the baseball quarterfinals.. It was a great year for baseball at all area schools, all eight of them in the postseason. Both Kyle Kirk's Tift County Blue Devils and Brad Porter's Tiftarea Academy Panthers came within an eyelash of doing even better: the final four.
