TIFTON —
The Jay Deason Fund is excited to announce that the 5th Annual Jay Deason Memorial Golf Tournament is coming up on Monday, March 18 at Spring Hill Country Club in Tifton. The tournament will help raise funds in support of the Tools for School program, The Jay Deason Memorial Scholarship at ABAC as well as other local youth-based charities.
Sign-up rates begin at $75 for individuals, with scholarship levels available for teams. More information is available at www.jaydeasonfund.com.
The Tools for School program was established to provide supplies and educational necessities for local students who are in need. Most recently, the $3,000 annual contribution to Tools for School has specifically assisted the approximately 60 children in the Tift County school system who are classified as homeless.
The annual Jay Deason Memorial Scholarship scholarship targets aspiring Early Childhood Education majors at ABAC and its purpose is to help encourage young adults to pursue an education degree, maintain excellence in his/her pursuit of the degree and thereafter, to enhance the lives of the children they teach. In addition to these annual programs, the Jay Deason Fund was also able to support other special causes in 2012. These inluded a donation of $1,000 to the medical fund of 6-year old Elena Shiver after she was diagnosed with leukemia and a donation of $2,000 to the Tift County High School for the purchase of the Study Island study software to assist with graduation tests.

Ernie Banks used to say, "let's play two." In a game that was as long as two and was defined early on by errors and later by a pitching duel, it would be offense that propelled the Tattnall Square Trojans past the Tiftarea Academy Panthers, 6-2 in 14 innings. Tattnall, who won the first game of the series, 4-1 before dropping game two, 6-3, will meet Mount de Sales in the Class AAA semifinals next week.
