Sharon Kahler Hawkins Mangham, 47, of Apalachicola, Fla., died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at Bay Medical Center in Panama City, Fla. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. John Blaine Fleming, 78, of Adel, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at South Georgia Medical Center. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., Adel. Mr. Fleming is survived by his wife, Sara Jones Fleming of Adel; a son and daughter-in-law, Don Fleming and Margaret Bodde of Montclair, N.J.;and a daughter, Charlotte Fleming Hale, and her fiance, Donnie Guthrie, both of Adel. Elvin Dean Jr., 70, of Tifton died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2013 at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Baptist Church with interment to follow at the church cemetery. Survivors include a son, Michael Rondinello of Syracuse, N.Y.; as well as two sisters, Flossie Bush of Fitzgerald and Callie Wright of Tifton. Funeral Services for Mildred Lane, 74, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Chula. She leaves to cherish her memories two children, Raymond Howard Lane (Phyllis) of Jacksonville N.C.; and Rosemary Lane of Chula; as well as four step-children, Clifford Lane (Fannie); Allen Lane, Jerome Whitfield (Winnie) and Evergreen Sears (Johnny). The body will lie in state at Eagles Wings Julip Worship Center from 12 until 1 p.m. Friday for family viewing and from 1 until 6 p.m. for public viewing. Interment will be held at Oakridge Cemetery. The services are entrusted to Melton Funeral Home.

Leaving aside the seriousness of lawlessness, and the corruption of our civic culture by the professionally pious, this past week has been amusing. There was the spectacle of advocates of an ever-larger regulatory government expressing shock about such government's large capacity for misbehavior. And, entertainingly, the answer to the question "Will Barack Obama's scandals derail his second-term agenda?" was a question: What agenda?
