A "rant" in the Jan. 22 issue of the Gazette challenges a pro-life columnist's Biblical stance on the issue of abortion, stating that the book of Leviticus requires that a pregnancy resulting from adultery would require stoning of the woman. Since several pro-life columns have been published recently, I'm not sure if the reader is referring to mine or not, but I appreciate the opportunity to respond.
I wish he had cited the referenced scripture in Leviticus, however, because I have been unable to locate any biblical references that require stoning of a pregnant woman. On the contrary, Exodus 21:23 directs that anyone who injures a pregnant woman, causing a miscarriage or stillborn birth, is to be put to death. It seems very clear that God included the unborn when he gave the sixth commandment, "You shall not murder." (NIV)

Tift County almost pulled off an incredible feat this year, having two teams in the baseball quarterfinals.. It was a great year for baseball at all area schools, all eight of them in the postseason. Both Kyle Kirk's Tift County Blue Devils and Brad Porter's Tiftarea Academy Panthers came within an eyelash of doing even better: the final four.
