TIFTON —
The Exchange Club of Tifton will host the 20th annual Bids for Kids Television Auction from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23. The special project will benefit the area agencies involved in helping to prevent child abuse in Tifton and Tift County.
Thad Paulk, Exchange Club president, said that Tift County is pressed for resources to handle all the cases involved in child abuse and neglect. Tift County had 580 cases of child abuse cases reported in 2011.
Paulk said, “A child is a wonderful gift, and neglect and abuse are not an option. We must work harder to change that number.”
The live auction will feature over 200 items and will be offered to the highest bidder. All items will be published in the Saturday, Feb. 23 edition of The Tifton Gazette. All funds raised from the auction stay in Tift County.
“We will have everything from diamonds to gift certificates and home décor to weekend retreats. We also have a golf cart up for auction again this year, donated by Shiver Carts,” said past President Tyron Spearman.
Exchange Club members are still looking for additional items. If you or your business has an item to donate to the Auction, call Paulk at 392-2175 or Spearman at 386-0216.
The Exchange Club of Tifton has raised over $250,000 over the 20 years of the production. The club has won the coveted Care Award from the Exchange Foundation that honors clubs that sponsor the most effective and innovative child abuse prevention projects. The Exchange Club of Tifton meets at noon every Monday at the Hilton Garden Inn.
Anyone is invited to get involved to help in the fight against child abuse.

Tattnall Square tops Tiftarea, 6-2
Ernie Banks used to say, "let's play two." In a game that was as long as two and was defined early on by errors and later by a pitching duel, it would be offense that propelled the Tattnall Square Trojans past the Tiftarea Academy Panthers, 6-2 in 14 innings. Tattnall, who won the first game of the series, 4-1 before dropping game two, 6-3, will meet Mount de Sales in the Class AAA semifinals next week.
