Walter O. ‘Sonny’ Woodall

OMEGA — Walter Oren "Sonny" Woodall, 74, of Omega died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Omega Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Smith and Dr. Danny Ray officiating and a eulogy by Mr. Nat McCalvin. Burial will follow at Omega Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.

Nephews of Mr. Woodall, Patrick Lang, Eric Woodall, Stanley Dean, Kenny Swain, Clarence Swain and Travis Swain, will serve as pallbearers. Deacons of Omega Baptist Church, former members of the Tifton Jaycees and Jaycettes, Kory and Bobbi Keeter, Jones Ponder, Milton Mercer, Tory Pisciotta, Rayburn Jones, Larry Dunn and Junior Holton will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Born April 30, 1938 in Tift County to the late Wilbert Oren “Buster” Woodall and Lucille Annette Shinholser Woodall, Mr. Woodall was a graduate of Omega High School and was a member of the United States Army Reserves. Mr. Woodall had worked in sales for the Tiftarea Shopper and the Tifton Clothes Shop. He was a member and deacon of Omega Baptist Church where he taught youth when his children were young. He later taught the young adult Sunday School class, was the Sunday School secretary, and sang in the choir. Mr. Woodall was active with the Tifton Jaycees, where he was a past president, a lifetime member and a Region 13 Director. He enjoyed fishing and grilling out, and was especially known for cooking smoked Boston butts. He loved his wife, his family and his pets. In addition to his parents, Mr. Woodall was also preceded in death by one sister, Theresa Lang.

Mr. Woodall is survived by his wife, Mary E. Robinson Woodall of Omega; his children, Vance and Sandy Woodall, Scott and Sidney Woodall and Selena Woodall, all of Omega; his brother and sister-in-law, Johnny Mack and Pat Woodall of Brooker, Fla.; his grandchildren, Scott Woodall Jr., Whitney Woodall, and Taylor Woodall; his great-grandchild, Gavin Woodall; and many nieces and nephews.
