Lucy Catherine Dean Fletcher

CHULA — Lucy Catherine Dean Fletcher, 88, of Chula died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Chula. The Rev. Chad Hall will officiate with burial to follow at Tift Memorial Gardens. Her grandsons, Mark Lyles, Adam Wynn, Austin Wynn, Lee Fletcher, Luke Fletcher, Jamie Horton and Brett Fletcher, will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Fletcher was born on Jan. 20, 1924, in Sycamore and was the daughter of E. L. Dean and Lucy Sheppard Dean, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Luther Fletcher, who died in 1995; two sons, J.R. Wynn, who died in 1965, and Ricky Darrell Fletcher, who died in 2011; and eight brothers and sisters. She graduated from Sycamore High School in 1943. She was a homemaker and former co-owner of Fletcher's Grocery in Chula. For a time, she kept children in her home and many of them still call her MaMa Fletcher. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Chula, where she faithfully attended until her illness.

Mrs. Fletcher is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Julie Wynn of Suwannee, Mike and Brenda Fletcher of Chula and Travis and Sandy Fletcher of Chula; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sandra and Ron Walker of Tifton, Gail and Mark Youngblood of Chula and Jan Fletcher of Chula; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dawn and Mark Lyles, Dalton and Megan of Irwin County; Adam Wynn of Atlanta; Amelia and Paul Hamilton, Charlotte and Savannah of Flowery Branch; Austin and Emily Wynn and Annie Ruth of Louisville, Ky.; Lee and Sabrina Fletcher and Lane of Chula; Luke and Lindsey Fletcher and Landon of Sycamore; Jamie Horton and Chase of Chula; and Christy Fletcher and Brett Fletcher of Chula.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at the First Baptist Church of Chula, 30 Academy Drive, Chula, GA 31733, or to the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Betty Hall, Tammy Powers and the staff of Hospice of Tift Area for their loving service to her.
