TIFTON —
The NGA professional golf tour is coming to Springhill Country Club in Tifton this week starting Feb. 25 through March 3. Over 160 golf professionals will be competing for $200,000 in prize money.The professionals will play practice rounds Monday, Feb. 25 and Tuesday Feb. 26. On Wednesday, Feb. 27, local amateurs representing various businesses around the Tifton area will join the NGA professionals for a Pro/Am competition. Spots are still open so call ASAP if interested. There will be a long drive competition at 11:30 a.m. and a shotgun start for the Pro/Am at noon. At 5 p.m. there will be a reception following the Pro/Am.
The NGA “Springhill Classic” will begin Thursday Feb. 28 and will run through Sunday, March 3. Tee times will start at 7:30 a.m. on each of those days. The awards ceremony will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
The public is invited to come out to Springhill County Club on Highway 82 west (3 miles west of Lowes in Tifton).

Steve Hyman, an officer with the Tifton Police Department, is all smiles after receiving the Tifton Sertoma Club's 2013 Service to Mankind Award, presented by Chad Alexander, past president of the club.

Tift County almost pulled off an incredible feat this year, having two teams in the baseball quarterfinals.. It was a great year for baseball at all area schools, all eight of them in the postseason. Both Kyle Kirk's Tift County Blue Devils and Brad Porter's Tiftarea Academy Panthers came within an eyelash of doing even better: the final four.
