TIFTON —
“Mother Melba” Jean Hines Hyde, 81, of Tifton, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Shelton Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.
W. A. Hines, Travis Hunnewell, Jacob Hines, Melvin O. Hines III, James Green, Ben Cravey, Thomas Hines, Timmy Windrim and PFC Austin Griffis (USMC) will serve as pallbearers.
Born on Jan. 7, 1932 to the late Tommie Lee “Tom” Hines and Alma Elnora Baker Hines in Tift County, Ms. Hyde was the retired owner of her own residential cleaning service who had previously worked at Modern Fibers and Fitzgerald Underwear. She enjoyed growing flowers, working in her yard, and taking care of her animals. “Mother Melba” especially loved her family and spreading the word of God. As a Christian, she was true to her faith and had high moral and ethical values. She was a member of the Faith Worship Center and had previously been a member at Carpenter Road Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Hyde; one brother, Pete Hines; two sisters, Annette Hines and Mary Ellen Hines; a grandson, Dennis Grubbs; and her niece, Regina Hines.
Survivors include her daughter, Tommie Sue Hyde of Tifton; her grandchildren, Michael Lee and Millie Collins of Pelham, Paige W. and Michael Slaughter of Adel, Shaye and James Green of Hahira; her great-grandchildren, LaTashay Windrim, Lacey Myers, Travis Hunnewell, Kristina Brady, Austin Griffis, Austin Slaughter and Amber Griffis; one great-great-grandchild, Landon Brown; two brothers and sisters-in-law, M.O. “Gopher” and Opal Hines and Merrice and Roxie Hines all of Tifton; special niece and nephew, Susie Hines and W.A. Hines; and several other nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of Tift Area P.O. Box 747 Tifton, Ga. 31793.

Tiftarea-Tattnall split
The quarterfinals series between the Tiftarea Academy Panthers and defending state Class AAA champions Tattnall Square Trojans matched up two of the top teams in the state and after two games, the battle has been a stalemate.
