OCILLA —
Hazel Jones Hudson, 89, of Ocilla, died March 5, 2013 at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ocilla United Methodist Church in Ocilla with the Rev. Scott Brenton officiating. Interment will follow at Ocilla Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Paulk Funeral Home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Hudson was born January 28, 1924 in Ocilla, to the late Joe L. and Matilda Faulkner Jones. Mrs. Hudson lived in the community all of her life and was a former school teacher at Waterloo and Holt. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was an active member of Ocilla United Methodist Church for over 70 years. She served as Sunday school superintendent for over 30 years and was active in the United Methodist Women. A loving mother and grandmother, she enjoyed attending sporting events and school activities. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Estelle Alford and brothers, Claude Jones, Felton Jones, Vernell Jones and Freeman L. Jones.
She is survived by two sons, Walter J. (Lisa) Hudson of Ocilla and Arthur W. Hudson Jr. of Dublin; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Kevin) Giddens of Ocilla, Lauren Howell of Ocilla, Shawn (Brett) Manning of Dublin and Brandy (John) Bassett of Dublin; 10 great-grandchildren and a brother, Theodore “Ted” Jones of Baton Rouge, La.

Leaving aside the seriousness of lawlessness, and the corruption of our civic culture by the professionally pious, this past week has been amusing. There was the spectacle of advocates of an ever-larger regulatory government expressing shock about such government's large capacity for misbehavior.
