TIFTON —
ESG Operations will test the sewer system in Basin 1 of Tifton’s sewer collection system Monday.
The tests will be run from 1 to 4 p.m.
The area to be tested extends north from 22nd Street to Fulwood Road, and from Emmet Drive East to Tift Avenue North/Waterloo Road.
The purpose of the test is to determine points of inflow into the sewer system that cause the sewer mains to become inundated with rainwater during periods of heavy rainfall.
The test involves using specialized equipment to force smoke into the sewer mains. In areas where the sewers are open to the atmosphere, white smoke will be visible and will allow Water and Sewer Department personnel to examine the area and determine if there are breaks or defects in the pipes.
During the tests, residents may see white smoke coming from holes in the ground, vent pipes on the roofs of some buildings or homes, or from defective plumbing inside homes or businesses. This could mean issues with the plumbing, which could allow gases from the sewer system to enter living spaces.
The smoke used for testing is low temperature, non-toxic, does not stain, has no odor and dissipates within a few minutes.
For more information on the testing, call ESG Operations at 229-386-2115.

Tattnall Square tops Tiftarea, 6-2
Ernie Banks used to say, "let's play two." In a game that was as long as two and was defined early on by errors and later by a pitching duel, it would be offense that propelled the Tattnall Square Trojans past the Tiftarea Academy Panthers, 6-2 in 14 innings. Tattnall, who won the first game of the series, 4-1 before dropping game two, 6-3, will meet Mount de Sales in the Class AAA semifinals next week.
