Wednesday’s track meet at Tiftarea Academy saw both high and middle school teams competing, with the host Tiftarea Panthers score a number of winners in the junior high event.
Tiftarea swept the 50m run, securing first through third for boys and girls. Treey Ngyen (7.53 seconds) was first, 2nd Joseph Bryant, 3rd Spence Massey. For the girls, first was Marlee Marlowe (8.19), 2nd Hannah Branch, 3rd Morgan McKay.
In the 55m hurdles, 1st Cameron Kozma (10.29), 3rd Dallas Hunt and for the girls, 1st Marlowe (10.74), 2nd Branch, 3rd Morgan McKay.
The young Panthers took five of the top six slots in the 100m. 1st. Terry Nguen (13.56), 2nd Jackson Lee, 3rd Bryant and for the girls, Missy McKay (1:11.37) and 2nd Carlee Smith.
The 200m saw McKinley Moorehead finish first at 29.35 seconds, 2nd Neel Patel, 3rd Michael Garvey and in the girls race, Morgan McKay (33.65) was first, 2nd Kristen Murphy, 3rd MacKenzie Branch.
In the 400m, first went to Samuel Cook (1:23.26) and 2nd to Michael Duvall. Missy McKay’s 1:11.37 was good for the top slot and Smith finished second.
Kaycee Goodman won the 800m run at 3:07.57, only two seconds faster than Harper, who took second.
Alex Talton finished third in the 1600m with a time of 6:49 while Maddie Harper took first in the event at 6:51.
The 4x100 relays saw the team of Ngyen/Moorehead/Bryant/Lee win the boys race in 58.03 seconds. Second place went to Hunt/Brownlee/Jones/Massey and third to J. Cook/S. Cook/Jacob/Carswell.
Moorehead/Ngyen/Bryant/Carswell were the winning combination in the 4x400 relay, finishing at 5:00.9. Jones/J. Cook/S. Cook/Patel took second and in the girls relay, Smith/Goodman/Ward/Branch were first with a time of 6:15.65.
Garvey was the winner in the discus throw with a distance of 82-2.5 and Reece Speight took third. Tiftarea also won the girls’ discus event, with Kassidy clearing a distance of 25-9.5, Jordan Sumner finishing second.
The long jump went to Josh Jones at a distance of 13-11, 2nd Dallas Hunt and Lee in third.Abby Carswell’s 13-5.5 was good for the win in the girls’ event, second going to Hannah Branch and third to Lillie Turner.
High jump saw Spence Massey clear 4 feet. Terry Belcher and Jacob Cook tied for tied. Turner took second in the girls’ event, with a height of 4-2. MacKenzie Branch finished third.

Two from Tift named 1st team All-Region
The Tift County Blue Devils, who were only just barely eliminated in the state quarterfinals, placed two players on the All-Region team for 1-AAAAAA. The region, which sent three teams to the elite eight in the state tournament, named Lowndes’ Danny Redshaw Coach of the Year.
